In a recent statement, the PDP National Progressive Youth Initiative, a prominent youth faction of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), delivered a pointed message to Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara as well as his so-called “agents” in the National Assembly.
The group criticized Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, the representative for Ideato North South Federal Constituency in Imo State, for his ongoing attacks against Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Ugochinyere, who belongs to the opposition in the House of Representatives, has publicly campaigned against Wike while consistently backing Governor Fubara’s actions in Rivers State.
This warning from the youth group comes in light of Ugochinyere’s recent media statements, where he accused Wike of attempting to prevent Governor Fubara from accessing state funds through court orders he alleged were instigated by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Wike supporters. Ugochinyere expressed concerns that the APC and the pro-Wike faction are working to seize all allocations for Rivers State via a suit filed in Federal High Court, characterizing this as part of a pattern of creating constitutional chaos.
In response, the PDP youth group, represented by President Comrade Billy Matthew Nwachukwu and Secretary General David Terna Gondo, expressed their discontent with both Fubara and Ugochinyere. They accused them of evading accountability and transparency, emphasizing that their fear of public scrutiny is hindering the necessary local government elections.
“Enough is enough,” the statement read. “The PDP will not tolerate any further attacks on Minister Nyesom Wike, who is tirelessly working for the success of Nigeria through his infrastructural initiatives in the FCT.”
The youth group raised critical questions about why Fubara and Ugochinyere are resorting to tactics that undermine judicial integrity and focus their frustrations elsewhere instead of taking responsibility. They highlighted concerns about certain “fake activists” who appear to be leveraging their positions for personal gain, noting that some members of the National Assembly seem detached from the needs of their constituents.
“We urge the citizens of Ideato Federal Constituency to remind their representative to focus on his actual responsibilities,” they asserted. “If he lacks the skills for effective lawmaking, he should acknowledge it and make way for someone more capable.”
Furthermore, the PDP youth group issued a stern warning to Speaker Tajudeen Abbas regarding Ugochinyere’s actions. They threatened to occupy the National Assembly complex if Ugochinyere continues his attacks on the FCT Minister, whom they regard as a significant asset to Nigeria and the current administration under President Tinubu.
