During his visit to Kyiv today, U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin announced details of an upcoming military aid package worth $400 million for Ukraine, reaffirming America’s commitment to support the country in its fight against Russian aggression, just two weeks ahead of the U.S. presidential election.
In a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Austin expressed, “I’m pleased to announce today that the President of the United States has committed $400 million in assistance to provide your forces with more ammunition, armored vehicles, and anti-tank weapons.”
According to reports from Agence France-Presse, this military assistance is part of a broader initiative previously announced by the White House to support Ukraine.
Later in Kyiv, Austin delivered a speech calling for unity with Ukraine. Kyiv officials are expressing concerns that if former President Donald Trump, a Republican candidate, wins the election next month and returns to the White House, U.S. military aid to Ukraine could be scaled back.
As Ukraine faces increasingly dire conditions in the war against Russia, particularly in its eastern regions, Russian forces have made continuous gains in recent weeks.
