The number of members of the -Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, Yangtze River Delta and Pearl River Delta Museum Alliance- has increased to 168

On October 22, the Fourth Conference of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, Yangtze River Delta, and Pearl River Delta Museum Alliance was held in Tianjin, bringing together around 120 museum managers and professionals from nearly 70 museums across these regions. The conference focused on “promoting cultural heritage and discussing the future of museums.” According to the latest updates from the event, the membership of the “Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, Yangtze River Delta, and Pearl River Delta Museum Alliance” has increased to 168 institutions.

During the opening ceremony, Luo Wenli, a member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy Director of the National Cultural Heritage Administration, emphasized the significance of these regions in terms of economic development and rich cultural resources. As of the end of 2023, there are a total of 1,969 museums in China, accounting for nearly 30% of the country’s total. Among these, there are 466 national-level museums, including 121 first-class, 180 second-class, and 165 third-class museums. “The collaboration among museums in these three regions embodies the collective wisdom and creativity of museum professionals. We hope to use this conference as an opportunity to enhance cooperation, improve the quality of public cultural services, strengthen resource integration, accelerate resource flow, innovate mechanisms, expand external exchanges, and promote the high-quality development of the museum sector,” he stated.

The conference also announced the admission of 48 new members to the “Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, Yangtze River Delta, and Pearl River Delta Museum Alliance,” increasing the total membership to 168 and further expanding its influence. All member units are committed to fostering cultural heritage development at a higher level.

During the seminar, An Laishun, Chairman of the Asia-Pacific Regional Alliance of the International Council of Museums and a professor at Shanghai University, along with nine distinguished guests from museums in the three regions, gave keynote speeches on the theme “Promoting Cultural Heritage and Discussing the Future of Museums.” The sub-forums allowed participants to engage in high-level and in-depth discussions on “Museums and Cultural Heritage,” “Museums and Public Services,” and “Museums and Cultural Creativity.” The conference showcased the unique cultural heritage practices of the three regions’ museums, clarified methods and directions for collaborative development within the alliance, and reached numerous agreements on future initiatives.

This event was guided by the Tianjin Municipal Bureau of Cultural Heritage (Tianjin Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism) and organized by the Tianjin Museum and the Tianjin Museum Society.
