On October 14, representatives from the Pinglu Canal Group announced significant progress in the construction of the Pinglu Canal bridges. They reported the successful completion of the first 0 block of the cross-line rigid frame bridge, specifically the 0 block of Pier 12 on the right bank of the Shaping River Bridge. This milestone marks the beginning of a new phase in the upper structure construction of the continuous rigid frame bridges along the canal.
The Pinglu Canal features a total of 27 cross-line bridges, of which 9 are continuous rigid frame bridges and 2 are continuous beam bridges. The Shaping River Bridge, including its connecting line, spans approximately 1,600 meters with a width ranging from 12 to 13 meters. It consists of 7 segments: the main bridge in segment 4 utilizes a variable cross-section prestressed concrete continuous rigid frame design, while segments 1, 2, 5, 6, and 7 are constructed as prefabricated prestressed concrete continuous box girders, with segment 3 also using the same approach.
To ensure the successful pouring of the first 0 block, a dedicated construction management team was formed from various participating organizations, including the Pinglu Canal Group, the China Communications Road Planning and Design Institute, the Sichuan Highway Engineering Supervision Co., Ltd., and the China Communications Second Public Bureau. The team meticulously prepared for this stage, overseeing everything from drafting and approving the construction plans to managing the supply of raw materials and ensuring safety protocols were strictly followed. By optimizing the vertical slope of the formwork and implementing embedded climbing cones, the team effectively addressed significant technical challenges related to the height of the supports and the bridge’s slope, thereby accumulating valuable experience for future similar projects.
Looking ahead, the Pinglu Canal construction management team plans to capitalize on the favorable dry season for construction, focusing on achieving their annual production goals and delivering a quality, green, and transparent project.
