The 4th Chinese Women’s Go Celebrity Tournament Opens

The fourth edition of the China Women’s Go Championship concluded its semifinals on October 26 in Suqian, Jiangsu Province. In a thrilling match, Song Ronghui staged a comeback against the young prodigy Luo Chuyue. She will now face Lu Minquan for a chance to compete in the finals of the tournament.

In the quarterfinals, Song had previously defeated the inaugural champion Chen Yiming. During the semifinals against Luo, who was born in the 2000s, Luo had a strong advantage at first but made several critical mistakes, allowing Song to turn the tide and secure victory. In the other semifinal, Lu Minquan narrowly overcame Wang Chensheng, setting up a decisive matchup against Song Ronghui for the opportunity to challenge the previous champion, Yu Zhiying.

The tournament’s opening ceremony on October 26 featured a speech by Chang Hao, the president of the Chinese Go Association. He expressed that the “Champion’s Series” has been thriving since its inception in 1988, showcasing the charm of Go across China’s diverse regions and continuing to enrich the competition’s significance. Chang expressed hope that the female players would deliver outstanding performances and create memorable games throughout the tournament.

The fourth China Women’s Go Championship is organized by the People’s Daily, the Chinese Go Association, and is co-hosted by the Sports Department of the People’s Daily and the Suqian Municipal Government. The tournament features a prize of 250,000 RMB for the champion and 100,000 RMB for the runner-up.
