In a recent interview, Raye, the chart-topping British singer-songwriter who made headlines this year by winning a record-breaking number of Brit Awards, shared some unfortunate news: her highly anticipated second album will be delayed due to a theft.
“I had my car stolen, and all my songwriting books were in the boot,” she revealed on Instagram. “So, no second album any time soon. Love you, bye.”
This news comes as a disappointment for Raye, born Rachel Keen, who has been riding the wave of success following her debut album, My 21st Century Blues. Previously, she faced significant challenges with her former record label, which left her feeling sidelined. “I’m sick of being slept on and I’m sick of being in pain about it,” she expressed candidly.
After breaking free from her contract, Raye took the independent route, releasing My 21st Century Blues, which became an impressive success. Her single, Escapism, not only topped the UK charts but also reached the Top 30 in the US. This year, Raye made history by winning six Brit Awards in a single night, setting a new record.
Among her achievements, the remix of “Prada,” a collaboration with the rap duo D-Block Europe, spent an impressive 22 weeks in the Top 10 last winter and has recently made a comeback in the Top 40. Raye also contributed to Beyoncé’s 2024 album, Cowboy Carter, and dropped a new solo single titled “Genesis,” which she performed on US television in June.
