On October 9th, the China News Service reported from Zhengzhou that the China Railway Zhengzhou Group Corporation has successfully concluded its 10-day transportation operation during the National Day holiday, which took place from September 29 to October 8. According to the corporation, they leveraged the strategic advantages of the “Y” shaped high-speed rail network, accommodating an impressive total of 7.874 million passengers during this peak travel season. They operated 1,208 additional temporary trains, averaging about 787,000 passengers per day. Notably, on October 7th alone, they set a remarkable single-day record with 897,000 passengers transported.
This peak travel period experienced a surge in passenger flows mainly driven by tourism, family visits, and student travel. Key routes included the high-speed rail lines connecting Beijing-Guangzhou, Jinan-Zhengzhou, Zhengzhou-Xi’an, and Ningxia-Xi’an. To effectively manage the increased travel demand, the Zhengzhou group implemented a “one day, one map” transportation strategy, which included doubling high-speed train sets, adding extra carriages, and introducing night train services. These enhancements especially benefited direct routes from Zhengzhou to major cities such as Beijing, Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Shanghai, and Shenzhen, as well as routes from Nanyang to Shanghai and Xuchang to Beijing’s Fengtai.
In addition, with the launch of new lines like the Day-Lan high-speed rail, the group increased the frequency of intercity trains and added stops to better serve short-distance travelers. Throughout the holiday, they operated an average of 1,340 passenger trains daily to maximize service availability.
The Zhengzhou group also unveiled new tourism-oriented services, including tour packages, regular tickets, and intercity e-passes, creating collaborative offerings with hotels and tourist attractions to enhance the overall travel experience.
Alongside accommodating high passenger demand, there was a significant uptick in the transportation of essential goods and vital supplies. The company maintained a proactive approach to transportation scheduling and freight organization, ensuring efficient delivery of key items such as grain and fertilizers, while also supporting the supply of coal for electricity.
Furthermore, the Zhengzhou group took advantage of green rail transport by promoting a shift from road to rail, speeding up the modernization of logistics systems to lower overall logistics costs. They also intensified their outreach to businesses to gain insights into diverse transportation needs, refining their organization of international freight services for Central European routes. From September 29 to October 8, the group dispatched a total of 5.291 million tons of goods, averaging around 8,954 loaded cars and 10,146 empty cars daily.
