Davante Adams, the star wide receiver for the Raiders, is reportedly seeking a trade, and the New York Jets appear to be a likely destination, especially given the struggles that his former teammate, quarterback Aaron Rodgers, is experiencing with the team. The Jets, currently at a 2-2 record after the first four weeks of the season, have seen Rodgers throw for five touchdowns and one interception. However, his chemistry with top wideout Garrett Wilson has been less than stellar. Wilson has only managed 191 yards and a single touchdown over those four games, and his catch percentage hasn’t improved even with a quarterback upgrade.
The Jets’ overall passing offense ranks just 18th in the league, hampered by an offensive line that has made it increasingly difficult for Rodgers to release the ball, often in under 2.5 seconds.
It’s no secret that Rodgers enjoys reuniting with former teammates. If Adams were to join him in New York, the duo—who previously combined for 7,517 yards and 68 touchdowns in Green Bay (and 76 touchdowns including postseason play)—could significantly enhance the Jets’ chances of dominating the AFC East. Together, they are one of the best quarterback-receiver combinations in NFL history.
However, bringing Adams to New York might come at a cost, potentially limiting Wilson’s opportunities in the process. The Raiders will need to make a decision before the trade deadline on November 5 regarding how much salary cap they could absorb in the trade, which could serve as an incentive for the deal.
Additionally, the Jets’ offensive line has been unstable, and if Adams takes up a significant portion of the salary cap, it could constrain the team’s ability to make necessary moves along the line, creating a complicated scenario.
