(Qin Zhengguo, right center) and the Wanyu Foundation, along with various organizations like the Overseas Taiwanese Care Association and the Foundation for Children with Disabilities, recently launched the “Community Care Connection – Supporting Military and Vulnerable Families” initiative. This event distributed over $30,000 worth of essential supplies and food items to the community.
The lead coordinator, Qin Zhengguo, a congressional candidate for the 38th District, emphasized that military and police families are often perceived to be well cared for by the government. However, he pointed out that this is not always the case, particularly for veterans and those injured in service, as well as their families who face significant challenges. He expressed gratitude for the strong community response, where many people contributed financially and physically to purchase supplies. The donations were delivered to three groups representing veterans, active-duty military personnel, and charities that serve police officers.
Qin Zhengguo highlighted that the donations included a variety of items such as blankets, shoes, and food, all sourced from Taiwan. He aimed to showcase Taiwanese culture and flavors, encouraging the broader American community to appreciate the warmth and hospitality of Taiwan.
Soo Jun Cheng, president of the Overseas Taiwanese Care Association, and vice president Kitty Luo were also instrumental in the event. Soo noted that some veterans struggle to reintegrate into civilian life due to a lack of marketable skills and, regrettably, some even become homeless. He joined the initiative out of gratitude, wanting to express appreciation towards the military personnel who have previously supported Taiwan, using Taiwanese products as a gesture of respect.
Kitty Luo mentioned that more than 90% of the materials distributed to military personnel and their families were donated by her and her neighbor, Shih Chiu-Fang. Alongside running her hotel and an autism foundation that helps those with autism find employment, Kitty enjoys giving back to those in need. She expressed delight at collaborating with the Wanyu Foundation to scale their support for military and police families, actively participating in purchasing items and organizing distribution efforts.
Diamond Bar’s Vice Mayor, Deng Jia-Yu, expressed strong support for Qin Zhengguo’s initiative to assist vulnerable military families, believing that once in Congress, Qin will continue to advocate for and better support these groups.
The event attracted enthusiastic participation from parents and student volunteers from the Wanyu Foundation, all eager to contribute to this important cause.
