Uchechukwu Nnaike recently covered an inspiring story about the Nigerian Breweries/Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund’s generous donation of a cutting-edge digital language laboratory to Keke Senior High School in Agege, Lagos. This contribution is dedicated to Adeola Adefemi, the honored recipient of the 2023 Maltina Teacher of the Year award.
At the handover ceremony held at the school, Sade Morgan, Corporate Affairs Director of Nigerian Breweries Plc, underscored the transformative impact of this new facility on teaching and learning outcomes for students. “This initiative aligns with our corporate philosophy and our corporate social responsibility efforts,” she remarked, reiterating the company’s dedication to addressing the educational infrastructure challenges in Nigeria by providing essential resources.
Morgan further acknowledged Keke Senior High School’s impressive academic success, stating, “We commend the outstanding achievements of Keke Senior High School, named ‘Best Senior Secondary School’ in the 2020 Lagos State Governor’s Quiz Competition, and as the winner of the 2024 Lagos Reads Inter-schools Quiz Competition.”
Jamiu Alli-Balogun, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, expressed his appreciation for Nigerian Breweries’ kind donation, emphasizing its potential to equip students and teachers with vital digital resources necessary for educational advancement. He also lauded Adefemi for her dedication and for bringing pride to her school and state.
Mrs. Patience Aina, the principal of the school, conveyed her gratitude to the Nigerian Breweries-Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund, stating, “This additional infrastructure will significantly enhance the government’s efforts in providing quality education. With this language laboratory, our students will enjoy a well-equipped learning environment.”
Aina also noted that this recognition would inspire teachers, encouraging Adefemi to continue serving as a role model of excellence and motivating her peers.
In her remarks, Adefemi expressed her appreciation to the Nigerian Breweries-Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund for their unwavering commitment to education and the teaching profession. She is optimistic that the new facilities will yield positive learning outcomes for her students. As part of her award for being named the 2023 Maltina Teacher of the Year, Adefemi received a cash prize of 6.5 million Naira and a fully funded trip to Tampere, Finland, for professional development training.
Looking ahead, the grand finale of the 2024 Maltina Teacher of the Year competition, celebrating its 10th edition, is scheduled for October 11, 2024.
