On October 15th, during a press briefing, Major General Wu Qian, the spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense of China, addressed recent military-related issues.
A reporter asked, “On October 8th, the navies of the United States, Japan, India, and Australia conducted joint exercises in the Indian Ocean under the ‘Malabar’ framework. Reports suggest that this move is aimed at countering China and strengthening security cooperation among the Quad. What is your comment on this?”
In response, Wu Qian stated, “China believes that defense and security cooperation among certain countries should not harm the interests of third parties or compromise regional peace and stability. The so-called ‘Quad’ mechanism has become a political tool used by the U.S. to contain China. We strongly oppose the practice of using China as a scapegoat to create confrontations and escalate regional tensions. Small groups will not change the broader situation. The Asia-Pacific region should serve as a stage for cooperation among countries, rather than a battleground for geopolitical competition. We urge the relevant nations to abandon their zero-sum mentality and focus on actions that contribute to shared regional security, rather than the opposite.”
