On September 29, Incheon, South Korea, played host to a significant event: the “Celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China and the Seventh Sino-Korean Children and Youth Talent Performance Conference.” This vibrant gathering was co-hosted by the Sino-Korean Children’s Education Association, the Sino-Korean Multicultural Exchange Association, and the Korean Chinese Language Education Association, and it drew over 700 attendees, including overseas Chinese and their children. Notably, Fang Kun, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in South Korea, was present at the event.
During his speech, Fang Kun underscored the importance of Chinese culture as a foundational element for the Chinese nation, describing it as a unique cultural heritage for those living abroad. He expressed his aspirations for the Chinese diaspora in South Korea to continue serving as a bridge, championing the preservation of traditional Chinese culture while facilitating cultural exchanges with South Korea. Fang urged educational associations in the Chinese community to work together and inspire young people to engage with their cultural roots, stressing this as essential for the long-term development of future generations of overseas Chinese.
The event’s organizers also took the opportunity to acknowledge the incredible progress made by New China over the past 75 years. They reaffirmed their dedication to nurturing cultural identity among children of overseas Chinese through a variety of activities and promoting cultural interaction between China and South Korea.
The talent performance itself was a showcase of diverse artistry, featuring traditional instrument performances, children’s choirs, poetry recitations, martial arts, and innovative offerings like theatrical dances and instrumental collaborations between Chinese and Korean performers. The event wrapped up on a joyful note with all participants joining together to sing “My Country and Me.”
