On October 22, in a meeting held in Sri Badak Bay, Vice President Han Zheng met with Brunei’s Crown Prince Al-Muhtadee Billah.
Vice President Han emphasized the long-standing friendship between China and Brunei, noting that the two countries have been separated only by a body of water. He highlighted that over the past 30 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, China-Brunei ties have developed positively, serving as a model for mutual respect, harmonious coexistence, and win-win cooperation between nations of different sizes. He urged both sides to take the important consensus of their leaders as a guide to enhance strategic alignment and work towards the shared goal of building a community with a shared future.
Han also remarked that this year marks the 40th anniversary of Brunei’s independence. He reaffirmed China’s unwavering support for Brunei’s development path, tailored to its own national context. He expressed a desire for enhanced high-level exchanges, to identify more areas of mutual interest and cooperation, and to jointly advance their respective modernization efforts, thereby elevating the China-Brunei relationship to new heights for the betterment of both peoples.
In response, Crown Prince Al-Muhtadee Billah acknowledged China’s remarkable achievements in reform and opening up, noting the profound transformations in its economy and society. He emphasized that Brunei places great importance on its relationship with China and holds a strong confidence in China’s development trajectory. The Crown Prince expressed Brunei’s eagerness to deepen cooperation with China in diverse fields such as trade, agriculture, energy, tourism, and cultural exchanges, aiming to propel the bilateral relationship into a new phase of growth.
