In a thrilling move for the travel industry, the Guangdong Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, in collaboration with the Hong Kong Tourism Board and the Macau Government Tourism Office, recently hosted a promotional event in Jakarta, Indonesia, on September 29. The aim? To highlight the latest developments in tourism within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area.
During this exciting event, attendees had the chance to dive into a variety of attractions through engaging presentations and live tourism program showcases, all designed to underscore the region’s unique charm. A particularly noteworthy highlight was the launch of an Indonesian language version of the Greater Bay Area’s one-stop tourism website. This platform centers around four key themes—Cantonese cuisine, cultural relics, theme parks, and festive events—providing easy access to information about tourist sites and local customs across the “9+2” cities, catering specifically to Indonesian travelers and industry professionals.
The event also featured a themed photo booth that brought the three regions to life, along with an experiential session focused on travel program development, which received positive feedback from attendees in the tourism industry.
We spoke with Chen Guijie, a deputy inspector from the Guangdong Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, who shared insights into the collaborative efforts taking place. He explained that discussions with representatives from the Hong Kong Tourism Board and the Macau Government Tourism Office revolved around integrating tourism resources within the Greater Bay Area, conducting joint promotional activities, and attracting international visitors. Additionally, they engaged with officials from Indonesia’s Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy to discuss inbound and outbound tourism policies and explore opportunities for mutual support in promoting tourism. Chen emphasized the importance of fostering stronger cooperation between Guangdong and Indonesia in the travel sector.
