On October 1, 2024, the Fourth China Chengdu Greenway Sports and Lifestyle Carnival kicked off in Chengdu, showcasing the China Urban Outdoor Multi-Sport Competition and the China Urban Exploration Challenge. This National Day holiday, Chengdu transforms into a dynamic arena where residents can engage in a variety of sports along greenways, parks, farmlands, and fitness centers, allowing them to appreciate the city’s beauty while immersing themselves in the rich cultural heritage of the Tianfu region through City Walks.
We spoke with a representative from the Chengdu Sports Bureau, who shared insights about this year’s theme, “Sports in Chengdu, Green Living.” Co-organized by Chengdu and the National Administration of Sports Mountaineering Management Center, the carnival invites citizens to participate in the “Homecoming” challenge events in designated sports experience zones. Here, they can try out new sports like soft hockey and frisbee, all part of the Chengdu World Games experience.
Participants are also encouraged to visit various sports academies and fitness centers overseen by the Chengdu Sports Bureau, where they can receive expert guidance aimed at enhancing their athletic skills and learning effective fitness techniques.
Notably, one of the highlight events of the Fourth China Chengdu Greenway Sports and Lifestyle Carnival is the China Urban Exploration Challenge. This competition features both the bustling city center and a designated area in Xinjin. It includes five routes such as the “Duyun Heritage, Vibrant Chengdu Line” and “Everyday Chengdu, Lively Streets Line,” connecting over 30 unique locations across the city. The Xinjin area emphasizes themes of traditional agricultural civilization, intelligent green industries, and beautiful rural development through its two modern agricultural culture exploration routes.
“I tried so many new sports today and even bought several cultural and creative souvenirs,” said Xiong Ying, a tourist from Chongqing who decided to travel with her family, making Chengdu their first stop.
Since its launch on April 20, 2024, the Fourth China Chengdu Greenway Sports and Lifestyle Carnival has featured a wide range of events, including toddler balance bike races, youth basketball competitions, Go tournaments, and dragon boat races. To date, more than 30,000 families have taken part in various activities, impacting over 2 million people in total.
