Bauchi Lawmaker Sponsors 83 Students to Address Shortage of Health Workers 

In a proactive move to address the persistent shortage of healthcare workers in his district, Mr. Jaafar Gambo Leko, a member of the House of Representatives for Bogoro, Dass, and Tafawa Balewa in Bauchi, has sponsored 83 students to enroll at the Bill and Melinda Gates College of Health Sciences and Technology in Ningi.

At a recent event in Dass LGA, where admission letters were presented to the students, Leko’s aide, Mr. Yau Dass, expressed the representative’s deep concern regarding how the healthcare shortage is affecting the well-being of constituents. Leko revealed that this initiative includes full scholarships for 82 students, valued at N5,186,000, as part of efforts to tackle the deficit of health professionals.

Leko stressed the importance of supporting the educational aspirations of the youth in his district, stating, “Education is key to unlocking the potential of young people.” In a commitment to their future, he shared that he has been in talks with Governor Bala Mohammed about ensuring automatic employment opportunities for these graduates. This initiative aims not only to alleviate the shortage of healthcare workers but also to create job opportunities for the youth in the region.

Additionally, Mr. Anas Bununu, Leko’s legislative aide, highlighted various projects that the representative has initiated to empower his constituents. These projects include providing essential agricultural inputs, improving water facilities, expanding electricity access, enhancing healthcare services, and generating employment. Bununu noted Leko’s steadfast commitment to the welfare of his constituents, pointing out that sponsoring these students exemplifies his dedication to their future.
