A new cold front is beginning to impact various regions across the country, bringing snow and a significant drop in temperatures. The Central Meteorological Observatory predicts that on October 22 and 23, the cold air will continue to affect central and eastern parts of the country, with temperatures in northeastern areas, northern North China, eastern Huanghuai, and the Jianghuai region decreasing by 3-6°C. In some localities, the temperature drop could exceed 8°C.
In Heilongjiang province, heavy rain and snow accompanied by strong winds are leading to a drop in temperatures, prompting multiple measures to ensure heating supply. From October 20-21, most areas in Heilongjiang experienced these weather changes, with temperature drops ranging from 4-8°C, and some areas seeing drops of 8-10°C.
In Qitaihe City, the sudden drop in temperature took residents by surprise. To ensure that indoor temperatures remain comfortable, heating companies in Qitaihe have activated their heating management systems, increasing the water temperature in primary heating networks and closely monitoring the secondary network temperatures for timely adjustments.
The National Energy Group’s Heilongjiang branch oversees winter heating in major parts of Harbin, Shuangyashan, and Beian, covering about 80% of the area. All coal-fired power plants under this group have begun operations, with Harbin Huaneng Heating Company employing a coordinated dispatch model to adjust heating parameters efficiently, ensuring the public’s heating needs are met.
In Shanxi, specifically in Lüliang, the cooling temperatures have led some mountainous areas to commence heating earlier than usual. At a heating plant in Jiaokou County, workers have begun firing up the boilers and preheating the pipelines. As the furnace temperature rises, the entire heating system platform is now fully operational.
“We cover a total heating area of 1.52 million square meters, serving over 18,000 residents,” said Wen Yanhui, the deputy manager of a local heating company in Jiaokou County. “All 22 heat exchange stations have been activated, and our staff is on a continuous 24-hour shift to monitor users and the heat exchange stations.”
To maintain the quality of heating services, the company has designated personnel at each position to continuously record the operation of the gas boilers, returns water temperature, and burning conditions, adapting heating parameters in response to outdoor temperatures, thereby steadily increasing boiler and network temperatures for safe and stable heating operations.
In Shaanxi, a frost blue alert has been issued, and the heating system in urban Yulin has been activated early. Between October 19 and 20, the region experienced extensive rainfall and declining temperatures. The Shaanxi Meteorological Station released a frost blue alert on October 21, indicating that under the influence of cold air and radiative cooling, minimum temperatures could drop to -2°C in certain areas of northern and western Yulin, parts of western and southern Yan’an, northern Tongchuan, northern Xianyang, and select areas of the Qinling Mountains.
As of now, all three heating supply stations in downtown Yulin have been activated, with staff working overtime to ensure each unit and residential block gets their heating systems started smoothly.
