America’s first Cybertruck police car appears in California to promote anti-drug campaign

The Irvine Police Department in California has made headlines by unveiling the first Cybertruck police vehicle in the United States. This striking electric pickup truck, valued at over $150,000, is primarily designated for drug awareness education.

On October 8, the Irvine Police Department shared photos and videos on their social media platforms, including Facebook and X, announcing the new Tesla Cybertruck as a police car.

According to NBC News, the cost of the electric pickup, equipped with police gear, amounts to approximately $153,000.

In their statement, the Irvine Police Department clarified that this eye-catching Cybertruck will not be used for routine patrols. Instead, its main purpose is to support the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) program.

Some police departments across the U.S. have traditionally used decorated sports cars, vintage vehicles, and customized cars to promote the D.A.R.E. initiative, which educates youth about avoiding substance abuse. The Irvine Police Department has upheld this tradition for over 30 years.

The department emphasized, “For the past three decades, our officers involved in drug prevention have always driven the most attention-grabbing vehicles, which consistently excite and draw the attention of students.”

In a dynamic video released by the department, upbeat music accompanies the introduction of the Cybertruck, showcasing its prominent red and blue police lights attached to the front, back, and sides, along with the Irvine Police Department and D.A.R.E. logos on the doors. The video concludes with four officers stepping out of the vehicle.

The post from the Irvine Police Department expressed hope that this unique police Cybertruck will attract community members to take photos during local events, thereby fostering interactions between the police and the community to promote anti-drug messages.

While the Cybertruck will not be utilized for patrol duties, police officials stated that it may still be employed for emergency missions when necessary.
