Chinese Cultural Center of Greater Toronto to host annual fundraiser to build Asia Garden

The Greater Toronto Chinese Cultural Centre, a vital non-profit organization committed to promoting Chinese culture and encouraging multicultural exchanges in the Greater Toronto Area, is gearing up for its annual fundraising event, “Hua Yan,” set for September 28.

This year, the funds raised during “Hua Yan” will play a crucial role in supporting the construction of the Asian Garden, an initiative actively being developed by the Centre. Initially unveiled in May 2021, the Asian Garden is part of a larger upgrade and renovation project backed by the federal government of Canada, the provincial government of Ontario, and the Greater Toronto Chinese Cultural Centre. Once completed, this garden will showcase traditional Chinese landscaping, becoming a distinctive architectural landmark in Ontario.

On September 10, the Greater Toronto Chinese Cultural Centre provided the media with an exciting update on the preparations for this year’s “Hua Yan.” Attendees can look forward to thrilling performances, including renowned tenor Lawrence Williford joining forces with the PhoneNX Ensemble—a group that brings together artists from Eastern and Western traditions. They will present original music by Alec Roth, featuring the piece “Songs in Time of War,” which draws inspiration from the celebrated work “Chariots” by the esteemed Tang Dynasty poet Du Fu.

In addition to the captivating performances, the evening will host charitable auctions that include both live and silent auction items. The leadership team at the Greater Toronto Chinese Cultural Centre is eager to welcome guests from diverse backgrounds for what promises to be an unforgettable night and is encouraging generous contributions.

This year also marks the 36th anniversary of the Greater Toronto Chinese Cultural Centre. Over the years, the centre has remained committed to promoting traditional Chinese culture through a wide range of cultural activities, educational programs, and innovative art exhibitions. With a goal of connecting with various ethnic communities and cultural organizations, the Centre strives to foster exchanges and celebrate the rich diversity of our society.
