The forest is full of autumn colors, birds are playing in the rice fields, and the colorful and beautiful autumn scrolls are spread out.

The Huangchong Bunting, a critically endangered species and a national treasure, has recently made headlines after birdwatchers spotted over a hundred of them in Fuan, Fujian Province. This kind of sighting is extremely rare.

In the quaint village of Lian in the town of Xitan, over 200 acres of rice paddies have entered their harvest season, painting the landscape in vibrant golden hues. Every year around this time, migrating winter birds flock to the area for a pit stop. Recently, avid birdwatchers stationed here were astonished to find a large group of Huangchong Buntings among them—an impressive sight for anyone passionate about wildlife.

After spending several days monitoring and photographing the area, observers noted the scene was stunning. The warm sunlight bathed the rice fields as these colorful “little sprites” frolicked about, occasionally pausing to gaze into the distance or engage with their companions, clearly enjoying their time.

The rice fields in Lian village were transformed from abandoned orchards through meticulous farming practices over the past three years, resulting in high-yield paddies. This regeneration not only supports sustainable rice production but also provides a crucial stopover for migratory birds, offering them food during their journey south. Typically, these winter migrants linger here for about a week before continuing their migration.

In another intriguing wildlife observation, the Taohongling National Nature Reserve in Jiangxi recently shared footage captured by infrared cameras of two sika deer engaging in a playful but competitive interaction. The video depicts these male deer standing up and using their front hooves to “fight” each other. This behavior is often seen during mating season from September to November, as males compete for mates, though this standing combat is a less commonly observed phenomenon.

In Henan Province’s Xixia County, the Lao Jie Ling Mountain range is transforming into a breathtaking tapestry of autumn colors. October brings vibrant hues to the landscape, where red, yellow, and green leaves intertwine against the backdrop of rolling hills. After a recent autumn rain, the misty sea enveloping the mountains adds a touch of magic, making the scenery appear almost dreamlike.
