In a shocking incident on October 1, a 71-year-old man was violently attacked just outside his home in Irvine, California. The assault, recorded by surveillance cameras, shows the elderly man being pushed to the ground and then chased and beaten by a young man wearing a white shirt and dark shorts. This disturbing event occurred in broad daylight, prompting the victim’s family to call on the community for assistance in identifying the assailant.
During an interview, Julie, the victim’s daughter, revealed her family’s ongoing struggle to grasp the gravity of the situation. For safety reasons, she requested that her last name be withheld. “My father had just lifted his head when this young man appeared out of nowhere and pushed him,” she recounted. “His instinct was to run, but he fell hard, and that’s when the attacker continued to assault him.”
Julie explained that her father was getting ready for work when this random act of violence took place in their driveway. The assault left him with multiple scrapes and a knee injury that needed bandaging, along with significant psychological trauma. The family has reported the incident to local police, yet no arrests have been made as of now. Authorities have not indicated whether the attack was racially motivated.
In a bid to find the attacker, Julie shared the distressing video, hoping someone might recognize him and help avert future incidents. “This person could be jogging casually down the street, and without warning, they could harm residents or passersby. That’s simply unacceptable.” Anyone with information about the attack or who might recognize the assailant is encouraged to contact the Irvine Police Department at 949-724-7000.
