In a recent interview, an official from the Austrian Ministry of the Interior confirmed that a 20-year-old Swiss man has been identified as the prime suspect in a series of bomb threat cases across Austria.
According to reports from the Austrian newspaper “Kronen Zeitung,” since September 30, police across various regions in Austria have received a total of 27 anonymous emails threatening explosions. These emails claimed that explosives were planted in public facilities such as train stations, schools, shopping centers, banks, and government buildings. Based on the content of these emails, Austrian authorities suspect that all incidents are linked to the same individual.
The bomb threats have significantly disrupted public life. The first five threats targeting train stations affected approximately 450 train services and thousands of passengers. Additionally, the extensive police response to these threats has incurred substantial costs.
The Ministry of the Interior noted that the suspect is currently in Switzerland, and the judicial system has issued a “European Arrest Warrant” for him. However, there has been no information released regarding his motives for these threats.
