The “Mid-Autumn Festival Carnival,” organized by the World Journal, attracted large crowds, particularly during the lunchtime rush when food vendors drew in a steady stream of visitors eager to sample a range of culinary delights. Among the standout stalls were those showcasing Taiwanese dishes from Ame Kitchen, Duan Chun-Zhen Beef Noodle, and Jin Mai Foods. This year, the festival marked the debut of Formosa Chocolate, which introduced its handmade chocolates, enticing many attendees to both purchase and taste these confections.
The lively vendors became popular photo spots for visitors wanting to capture memorable moments, with a particularly striking booth focused on indigo dye. This stall featured beautiful earrings and nature-inspired clothing, attracting a significant number of shoppers. The booth’s owner expressed joy over the overwhelming turnout, noting that business thrived from the morning through 4 PM. Although some items sold out quickly, many customers continued to ask about the products, leaving the owner feeling fulfilled as sales exceeded expectations.
Additionally, several airlines set up booths at the event, where attendees gathered to learn about various promotions. StarLux Airlines distinguished itself this year by offering special Calpis drinks to guests nearby, showcasing its unique offerings.
One of the festival’s major highlights was a 56-inch giant mooncake created by Jin Mai Foods. Its impressive size was matched by remarkable craftsmanship, made using antique molds that added a sense of history and character. The mooncake was filled with fresh pineapple and complemented by a special syrup, resulting in a flaky, non-greasy outer layer that perfectly encapsulated the essence of traditional handmade mooncakes.
Li Wen-Hsiung, the owner of Jin Mai Foods, and Li Ming-Bin, General Manager of the World Journal, led the ceremonial cutting of the mooncake, distributing pieces to the audience. As everyone savored the delicious treat, the atmosphere radiated warmth and joy, embodying the festive spirit of reunions during the Mid-Autumn Festival.
As performances began, the carnival’s energy amplified. The stage showcased vibrant song and dance acts that captivated onlookers, while the laughter of children, smiles from the elderly, and enthusiasm from young attendees created a truly joyful scene. Following the performances, the much-anticipated “Lucky Draw” segment brought the event to a thrilling climax.
The lucky draw prizes were varied and enticing, featuring foot baths, Jin Mai gift vouchers, Hai Di Lao cards, and handy thermal cups. Hosts Li Wen-Hsiung and Li Ming-Bin engaged warmly with the audience, building excitement and cheers with each prize announcement. Winners stepped up one by one to claim their rewards, filling the area with a celebratory vibe.
The grand finale included flight tickets generously provided by StarLux and EVA Air, further heightening the excitement among fortunate attendees. One winner shared in an interview that they entered on a whim but was completely surprised to win two tickets.
Li Ming-Bin commented on the importance of the Mid-Autumn Festival in celebrating family reunions and community warmth. He conveyed the World Journal’s goal to use the carnival as a platform for strengthening connections within the Chinese community in the Bay Area and wished all readers and attendees a joyful Mid-Autumn Festival, looking forward to celebrating this cherished tradition together each year.
