The inaugural “Sendai Chinese Festival” has recently launched in Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan, drawing a diverse crowd of attendees. Among the notable guests were Cui Weilei, the Consul General of China in Niigata; a representative from the Miyagi Prefectural Governor; Yanagitsu Hideki, who represented the Sendai City Mayor; and Xue Songtao, president of the Miyagi Chinese Association.
This exciting event was co-hosted by the Chinese Consulate in Niigata and the Miyagi Chinese Association. During the opening ceremony, Consul General Cui delivered remarks emphasizing that the Chinese people are embarking on a new journey toward building a modern socialist nation. He referred to the recent third plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, which outlined a strategic vision aimed at deepening reforms and advancing Chinese-style modernization. Cui noted that these developments will open up more avenues for exchanges and collaborations between China and other countries, including Japan. The primary goal of the “Sendai Chinese Festival” is to showcase China’s rich cultural and tourism resources, along with its achievements in modernization, ultimately fostering greater interest in engaging with China while enhancing confidence in peaceful coexistence, enduring friendship, and mutual cooperation between China and Japan.
Japanese officials shared their congratulations on the successful kickoff of the festival, highlighting the deep historical connections between Sendai and China. They expressed optimism regarding the future of exchanges and cooperation between Miyagi Prefecture, Sendai City, and China.
The festival features nearly 30 booths that highlight intangible cultural heritage, new energy vehicles, delectable food, and vibrant performances with a distinctly Chinese flair. The Chinese Consulate in Niigata has also established a dedicated booth to promote Chinese culture and tourism resources, while providing consular services, all of which have been warmly embraced by festival-goers.
